DANIEL ROBERT CUSHING
Daniel Robert Cushing is an expressive and articulate choral conductor who is known for his directing of evocative and distinctive performances. He has conducted and accompanied a number of prestigious performances in prominent venues across South Wales and the South West of England including Bath Abbey, Downside Abbey, Pershore Abbey, St. Mary's, Painswick, The Assembly Rooms, Bath, The Pump Room, Bath, Wiltshire Music Centre and at the Cathedrals of Wells, Bristol, Brecon, Newport, Clifton and Truro. As an early music enthusiast Daniel provides the harpsichord and organ continuo for the Bath based ensemble Bladud Baroque.
As a freelance Organist, Daniel regularly accompanies services at Brecon Cathedral, Christ Church, Bath and occasionally plays for services at Bath Abbey. Daniel is the founder and director of his Wiltshire based chamber choir - Dolce Singers. He is the Musical Director of Somerset Choral Society and Somer Valley Singers. Daniel is a freelance organist who performs extensively across the South West of England and regularly accompanies international baritone Matthew Tilley. Daniel has previously been the chorus master for Corsley Festival Choir, has performed as an official accompanist for the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod and was Musical Director of 'The Octet', a finely judged semi-professional chamber choir that toured the UK.
Daniel is in high demand as an accompanist, repetiteur and coach with a variety of soloists and ensembles, and regularly features alongside composer and conductor Matthew Coleridge as an accompanist and soloist for choral workshops. He has performed and worked with a number of acclaimed musicians and ensembles such as Elan Catrin Parry, The Handful of Singers, Adam's Apple Jazz Trio, The Bristol String Quartet, St. Woolos Sinfonia, Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra, Bradford on Avon Choral Society, The Bath Chorus, Victoria Oruwari, Maria Angel Garcia, Dr. Emma Gibbins, Rob Brian and Yuri Goloubev.
Daniel has held posts as Organist and Master of the Choristers at St. Margaret's Church, Blackwood and Central Methodist Church, Blackwood. He has been the Musical Director of Blackwood United Churches Choir, 'The Chamber Singers', a South Wales based choir that he led for an extensive number of years and has accompanied Bedwellty Deanery Choir on tours to many prestigious Cathedrals. Graduating from Bath Spa University with MA and BA (Hons) Music, Daniel studied piano under the distinguished Maria Angel Garcia and Organ with Dr. Emma Gibbins and Shean Bowers. During his time at university, Daniel was awarded the Jennifer Skellett Scholarship to specialise in choral direction under the acclaimed conductor Francis Faux. In 2015 Daniel won the award of Caerphilly County's Young Composer of the Year.
Daniel is passionate about supporting a variety of musical ensembles and is an advocate for the next generation of musicians. He is a friend of the 'Paragon Singers', 'The Handful of Singers' and a volunteer and friend of 'Bath Recitals' Young Artists Trust. He has previously served as a trustee and patron of the 'Bath Abbey Music Society' and is a member of the 'Association of British Choral Directors'.
